Using Home SchedulesParenting Tips

Our goal for week four is to help promote positive behavior in young children. Home schedules and routines are good tools to use to help you with this. When children know what is going to happen "NEXT," children will be more willing to transition to the next family routine and activity without being frustrated.

Schedules and routines help children learn self-control and self-regulation because it pretty much stays the same everyday. Young children understand their typical day and what each family member needs to do. Daily schedules and routines help children feel relaxed knowing what will happen each day.

TIPS:

  • Set up a picture or word schedule for your child to see. Go over this with your child daily at the start of using the schedule and then often

  • Ask your child to tell you what is going to happen "NEXT," to make sure they understand and know

  • Try to follow a schedule at much as possible. Life has its surprises but for the most part keep it the same
